I invite you to let your #NewPI & #FuturePIs know:
Tomorrow I’m running a short session on building a lab that can hold up in “winter”—the season when paylines are tight, rules keep changing, and hiring/approvals slow down.

A lab culture that runs itself so you can focus on the work that matters during work hours (stronger day-to-day performance without micromanaging)

What to do with your portfolios (not just funding) to make them winter-proof (avoids burning money & effort on dead ends)

We’ll talk about:

Setting up “machines” so you don’t start from scratch each time (cuts rework, frees scarce PI hours, keeps papers & grants on schedule)

No worries. His cabinet is gonna talk him into "it's the democrats' fault" in no time.

Have you are a New PI and recently thought:
"This isn’t the dream I thought it would be." Been there, done that! And you have it way harder right now. But you don't have to do it alone!

That is why I am offering a free session on Oct 3 at 1:00 pm ET:

From New PI to Tenure: 3 Moves to Launch a Research Program That Survives.

It is not about working harder. It is about building stability in a system that feels shaky.
stefanierobel.bsky.social
Even then, things were not as uncertain as they are now.

Today’s new PIs face startup funds that vanish faster, tenure paths that feel less predictable, and a constant pressure to do more with less.

It can feel overwhelming. And it can feel lonely.

🔬 New PIs: this one’s for you. When I started my lab 10 years ago, I thought I knew what I was getting into. I had the training, the passion, the drive.

But the reality hit harder than I expected.

When I was a kid, due to either neglect, trust in the tv, precognition, or a combination, my parents left me alone to watch 1954’s animated version of “Animal Farm.”

I was six.

I consider the experience of watching Animal Farm alone as if a Disney cartoon it was, a keystone of my upbringing.

CDC is no longer surveilling outbreaks caused by campylobacter, cyclospora, listeria, shigella, vibrio and Yersinia. What could go wrong?

The CDC quietly scaled back a surveillance program for foodborne illnesses.
As of July 1, a critical surveillance program is monitoring for only two pathogens instead of the usual eight.
