This whole thread. One of the drums I consistently bang on is the idea that the majority of “civility” requirements is code for “the way we hurt you is polite and therefore allowed and you may not complain; the way you hurt us is rude and boorish and therefore you do not matter.”
It’s so interesting to see these urgent exhortations to reestablish decorum. I have not seen evidence of a “coarsening” of American society. If anything, the opposite: I’ve seen thousands of individuals asserting their humanity and protesting the indignity of the system UHC profits from.

for people wondering how on earth yoon wasn’t impeached, it’s likely because PPP (yoon’s party) has ties to former pres park geunhye who was impeached in 2017. 2 impeachments in <10 years is a bad look, and they’re not willing to risk it. i’m shocked 3 members were willing to vote for impeachment.

I strongly suspect that some of the rise of anti-vax and anti-public health sentiment in this country can be tied to the fact that legitimate heath care is run as a complex, interlocking set of scams. Hard to trust the science when the edifice around it drips with maggots
Something about looking at plan after plan of high premium/high deductible/high out of pocket costs — in the full knowledge that many of the companies will do everything short of physical violence to avoid even paying out —can get you feeling a certain type of way
