Graphic designer based in Falkirk, Scotland. Hello!
Looks like it’s a rainy day today in Falkirk. Something quite nice about working with the sound of the rain in the background

Watched 28 Years Later last night. Never seen a movie go from a solid 7/10 to a 5/10 in the last minute of runtime before, kind of impressive how badly it fumbles the tone right at the end.

Not normally one to root for Disney, but hey if they wanna fight AI on copyright infringement I’m not gonna say no

Disney, Universal sue image creator Midjourney for copyright infringement
Walt Disney and Comcast's Universal filed a copyright lawsuit against Midjourney on Wednesday, calling its popular AI-powered image generator a "bottomless pit of plagiarism" for its use of the studios' best-known characters.

Great work Apple UI design team, everyone has been crying out for insubstantial, unreadable yet somehow overly detailed user interfaces, everyone I meet tells me how much they hate looking at their phones

Long time readers know how important we feel about creating your own thing. Hopefully this article gives you a push to make something — anything you can call yours.

My website is ugly because I made it
If my mom wanted good art on her fridge, she could’ve purchased reprints of works by Vermeer, Lichtenstein, Wyeth, etc. But she didn’t want good art – she wanted my art. Somebody with good taste...

Weekly Tip: Read, then re-read. Check for spelling. Doesn't matter if someone else wrote it or you did it yourself – in fact if you wrote it, get someone else to check it for you.

Brewdog's recently rebranded some of their beers, and they're claiming the new look is 'revolutionary'. Looks pretty bland to me, but then I'm not surprised that the massive company that pretends to be punk while treating its staff atrociously has trouble coming across as authentic.

Good morning to the inevitable consequences of my own hubris
You ever get into a proper flow state with a project, and all of a sudden it’s 2am and you’re tired and you’ve done more work in 4 hours than you’ve done in days?

Own your own content. You never know when platforms will get taken away, or taken over by weirdos.

More importantly: own your own knowledge.

AI has always promised to help people spend more time doing valuable work by automating the manual, repetitive, toilsome tasks so that software developers can be free to use their time on "something better".

That's not what's happening.
The promise that wasn’t kept
AI is distracting us from creating real value. While we chase speed and automation, meaningful and human-centered work is getting left behind. Is this progress?

Very different from their usual album art. Wonder if there’ll be some tracks highlighting the failings of the modern tech industry?

Oh good, Scottish train passengers are being subjected to an AI generated announcer which was apparently trained on data that wasn’t meant for that purpose. Love to live in a cyberpunk dystopia www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
‘Stop using my voice' - ScotRail's new announcer is my AI clone
Voiceover artist Gayanne says an AI used on ScotRail trains was trained using her voice.

Been doing some epub development recently, and the key takeaway so far is: assume any CSS or graphics even slightly interesting won’t be supported by one or more of the biggest vendors. Fun?
