Party leaders are too dependent on their wealthy donors. And some of this is learned behavior that’s generational in nature. Many of them began their political careers in the Reagan-Bush era when the party was running from liberalism. They can’t break free of the mindset.

I’m pretty sure that it’s donor influence. They’re dependent on the money for their campaigns to stay in office.
