€3 billion is just short of the annual budget of Barcelona. With only €300 million, we created loads of streets like this (and the UK has very little of this kind of beauty in its towns)

Fray Montesinos' utterly remarkable sermon from 4th December 1511. Following this he returned to Spain, said the same the King Ferdinand, and provoked a genuine crisis of conscience within the Empire.

In 1500, Queen Isabella order slaves taken by Colombus to be returned to the Carribbean and freed. One remarkable young lady decided tribal life was not for her, and opted to stay in Spain. What a life!

Writing a Substack about the people who died chasing this man's hallucinations. Superb photo. Robert Peary was arguably the worst of the Arctic explorers. He lied about reaching the North Pole, took 6 Inuit to the US in 1897 as 'specimens' (4 of whom died), had an affair with an Inuit lady and 1/2

Reading Bartholomé de las Casas 'A Brief Account if the Destruction of the Indies', and despite it being 500 years ago, the sheer joy the Conquistadors took in their murderous actions is thoroughly modern. You can see it in every conflict around the world.

The Telegraph is the propaganda wing of National Action now, and Alison Pearson is a dangerous terrorist leader trying to incite Brits to attack Muslims. This is an astonishingly racist piece - worse than Goodhart or even Carswell

If social media platforms were classified as publishers, you could simply pick up the owners of Substack, drop them in prison for ten years, and this nonsense would disappear. Should have been done from day one

That looks fantastic, Sam, thank you! I shall read the rest when a new job appears 😉 (Hopefully today, who knows!)
There's an interview here, at 1:23:00 with Neil O'Brien, where Adam Bolton asks about the phrase 'white British', which may be of interest; www.thetimes.com/radio/show/2...

One result of the Franklin Expedition was that the Netsilingmiut colonised Igjulingmiut lands in east Boothia Peninsular and King William Island, killing all but a handful

The whole of the 1840s saw very cold winters. Two years earlier in 1844 the brave British colonists at Churchill worked hard with local Indians to save as many Inuit as possible.

Everyone knows the story of John Franklins lost expedition, stranded off the coast of King William Island between 1846-48. They all died, even after eating each other. But those years were brutally cold, and the local Inuit tribes didn't fair much better

Life for many Inuit women was incredibly grim prior to colonialisation. Infanticide, murder and being 'given away'...

...officially discovered until 1500 (by Cabral, another Portuguese explorer). And how did the cantino map of 1502 show so much of the Brazilian coast only two years after it's discovery?
