Something always puzzles me in the stories super-rich quitting UK for Dubai. With a billion in the bank I would be congratulating myself I could afford to pay a bit more tax to live in such a great country rather than share desert bling with a bunch of despots, oligarchs and assorted hucksters.

I wonder if we'll ever get to see these "amazingly cool things" they are building? 🤔
I think people who don't spend time here regularly have no idea what "Silicon Valley" is and probably picture some tech'd out version of Disneyland rather than just suburbs with amazingly cool things being built inside fancy office buildings.

Not to sound trite stump speech but it is literally so far removed from what anyone actually cares about. I'm not sure your average person in Big Tesco wants to discuss old tweets, citizenship, loyalties to Britain - they sort of just want to pay for their shop without getting gouged.

🤬 On December 21, two Russian soldiers shot and killed 7 civilians in Pokrovsk.

Rinat Galimzyanov and Aleksey Agafonov broke into the basement of a house where civilians were sheltering.

When father and son told there was no alcohol, the Russians opened fire and killed the father and son.

@jonnelledge.bsky.social In this book, Pacheco has this amazing passage:

I'm reading Esmeraldo De Situ Orbis, by Duarte Pacheco, which was completed around 1508. It is a history of Portuguese exploration up to that time, and was banned from being published by the Portuguese until 1892! It has some wonderful lines in it, and here's one that struck me; 1/2

There is zero chance of the far left taking over the Dems. Gays are not safe outside Tel Aviv, Lebanon and Jordan have Christians in government, etc....These guys believe ALL the myths 🤷
It's simpler than that, folks. It's existential to her, in fact.

So long as Israel is the main hate object for overly-online lefties whose ideology can be traced back to the USSR or the PRC, and who intend to hijack the Democratic Party despite hating it, Weiss is going to stick with Republicans.
My theory, in short, is that Weiss is the modern version of Hayek backing Pinochet on free market grounds. Only she is no Hayek, intellectually, and her role in enabling repression is more direct.
