Merry gentlefolk, it is time.

Today is the day.

Today is comma-mas.

Today is the day where we contemplate the correct placing of the comma in 'God rest you merry, gentlemen'.

And if we are lucky, we can have a row about it.

⚡ Pope Leo XIV said the Vatican has already prepared a plan for his visit to Ukraine, per ANSA.

He did not name a date, noting that “one must be realistic” about such matters, but added that he hopes all efforts will be made to achieve a “just and lasting peace” in Ukraine.

Today is International Human Rights Day! A few years ago, I wrote a short piece on how this holiday was observed in East Germany - first through the state appropriation of the idea and then its contestation from below by dissident groups leading to 1989 zeitgeschichte-online.de/themen/unive...

One year to go
It's the 174th anniversary of the 18 Brumaire of Louis Bonaparte (the event, not the pamphlet).

But of course it's not relevant to our times: it's impossible nowadays to imagine the President of a large republic subverting the constitution to get around its prohibition on a further term in office.
