Old enough to remember when ward reduction, nonpartisan elections, big salary hikes, and personal full time staff were going to bring St. Louis City a more professional Board of Alders

$72,000 each a year for this nonsense

Voters approved a new tax on Airbnb-style rentals, but #STL officials didn't pass a bill authorizing collection.

Aldermen said they weren't told. City counselor's office said they were.

“There seems to be a lot of confusion about who is responsible for what.”

I'd just note this was during public comment on the new rules put forth to add restrictions on data centers in St. Louis. For context.

A speaker at the STL Public Infrastructure and Utilities meeting tonight says she's a former city resident who works with a company in the city. She gave a very pro data center perspective. Google reveals she's an employee of Steadfast City, a consultant working on the Armory data center proposal.

I have the virtual meeting details but posting them here could lead to zoom bombing. Host has not set up registration, which would curtail that.

So I guess ... DM me for those details? They'll also be in the story (behind a paywall!)

🔌I learned that the size of the data center proposed for 500 Prospect (the Armory lot) would be 96,000 sf.

Heard someone say that it would be bigger than what was proposed in St. Charles -- that's incorrect w/ what we know now

Don't confuse investment costs with size of a development

Anyway, I got a new job and he didn't get re-elected ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Prolly the nicest(?) way I could have written his comments. I was at a diff paper then and didn't have the editor support that I do now so ofc I'd recast this way differently today
Quote from a St. Louis Business Journal article about the NGA groundbreaking in 2019 that says: "When asked of plans to ensure NGA will be as equitable and transformative for the neighborhood as officials hope, Clay said that responsibility falls to the city of St. Louis. The community has to come together to change the dynamic, he said."

With NGA opening tomorrow, thought I'd share a memory from the groundbreaking:

I asked Lacy Clay how talk about helping North City can turn into action.

Thought it was a softball question; instead he yelled at me & said that wasn't his job.

He was literally the congressman for the area lol

I agree. The original plan from Green Street called for apts and other density-building amenities. I was looking forward to that
