Thankful to all those pushing back on urges to develop every last parcel and special interests. It shouldn’t be a difficult choice — housing for those in need should be placed away from high risk flood zones.

A local government election is approaching in #SterlingHeights . City officials keep obfuscating, which means they are wholly unqualified to protect natural spaces if they are unwilling to try to understand why they are important. The sad thing is challengers don’t seem that much more capable.

Just astonishing how much focus there is on planting trees to hopefully create new forests for the future

And all the while the plunder and destruction of our actual, existing forests just carries on worsening

Protecting established ecosystems and mature trees should carry more weight. Plant more where ecosystems have already been destroyed, but don't con the public saying it is "reforestation." At worst, it is #greenwashing . via @pbs.org

Some conclusions from this dismal episode:
* heritage trees need listing & strong legal protection
* a sense of nature/the living world as disposable, even laughable, runs deep

More residents spoke on behalf of the Sterling Oak this evening at the #SterlingHeights City Council meeting. As one rightly put, it doesn’t seem right people so uneducated on #tree science vote on tree destruction. Such is the world we live in. 😞
