I still think many Americans have no idea how bad this is going to get. I saw President Obama reposting a tepid, mealy-mouthed analysis by Ezra Klein—who's never seen a phenomenon he couldn't be 5 years late in incompetently circumscribing—and I felt like we don't have what it takes to survive this.

Fascists are desperate for violent disruption they can use an excuse for state violence and power grabs.

They have trouble with mockery, goofiness, and fun.

That holds across just about every type of authoritarianism. They like being feared for cruelty. They hate being laughed at and humiliated.

UK police already have the powers they need to arrest people for hate speech. They don't need more powers. What they need is more police officers so that they can investigate and arrest real criminals. And an end to political proscription of activists opposed to genocide that wastes police time.

So the American taxpayer eats it twice, once on tariffs and again on a second farm bailout. I’m glad farmers are getting help, no one should lose their farm, but it’s remarkable how fast “socialism” stops being a dirty word when the checks clear in red counties.

It's glorious. The focus on the core refining equipment is really making a difference. And as more of that expensive and difficult to repair equipment gets destroyed, they can shift some focus to the ports and other critical war manufacturing plants.

A big FU to 750k USG employees, presumably the ones who are "non-essential" and thus aren't actually required to work during the shutdown, predominantly clustered around the DC area, will not help their election prospects, assuming that we're allowed to have elections again.

I'm assuming they're not front-line infantry soldiers. The guard and reserve have a lot of special duty units needed in time of war. Does anyone know what units were called up and what type these are? Please tell me they're not infantry.
