As a double feature? Undecided as yet:

* Bones and All (2022)
* Orlando (1992, Tilda Swinton)
* Let The Right One In (2008 Sweden, not the American remake)

Tonight's movie was You Won't Be Alone (2022), set in nineteenth-century rural Macedonia. Described as about witches, the protagonists are serial skinchangers. Not so much a horror movie as an exploration of being human with occasional gory transitions.
An orange sun at sunset, framed through a wide doorway looking out into a valley. Silhouettes of brush line the bottom edge of the view, while rushes hang down from the top. The interior of the doorway is entirely dark and a light haze obscures the sky. An upper rail and a post to the right frame - as a corner by Mondrian - the sun.

New turntable slipmat, from Cold Spring in the UK.
Viewed from above, a turntable with a blue base. A white slipmat with a ten-pointed black star with narrow rays alternating wavy and straight is centered on the slipmat. Around the edge, the words "WHEN YOU LISTEN TO COIL DO YOU THINK OF MUSIC?" in a sans-serif vertically thin typeface, in all caps.

Neat! I liked it enough on a first watch this evening I might watch it again some other time myself. I loved the score and really admired the costuming work.

Tonight's spooky season movie: A Wounded Fawn (2022), featuring the Erinyes, bagh nakhs, tagelharpas, and conch shells - the last two on the film score.
Closeup of a bronze statue: the face of a frightened man, mouth open, left arm raised in warding, against a black background. The point of view is bracketed to left and right by a pair out-of-focus irregularly-shaped objects.

In this spooky season, happy birthdayversary (1947) to Anne Rice.
The Empress, Card III of the Major Arcana, from Ian Daniels' Tarot of Vampyres. A woman wearing an Italian Renaissance(I think? I'm not great on late medieval fashion) dress, black with a green and gold front panel and a white lace ruff collar as wide as her shoulders. She is very pale, long black hair, and is looking at you. Her hands, which have very pointy black nails, are clasped in front of her waist, holding a pink or faded red rose. Green apples(?) on boughs arc above her head.

My favorite Cure track is Fascination Street, for its bassline, but the question was "upbeat" song. :)

Fun fact: in the horror movie Bring Her Back (2025), a character watches a videotape, which begins with a flash of a URL. That site is a working website and contains video that could be on the videotape in the movie. www.thisisnotacult.xyz
we found you. | this is not a cult.

Spotted the A24 in Bring Her Back (2025).
A VCR on a shelf where someone is about to put in a videocassette. "A24" is on the dust shield inside the VCR insert slot.

For spooky season this year, Shudder has released a new Ghoul Log! Screenshot from Revenge of the Ghoul Log (2025).

(context: Ghoul Log is a fall tradition of the Shudder horror streaming service, a halloween-themed variant of the "christmas fireplace" video.)
The general motif for this year's Ghoul Log is a kind of terrarium scene.

An orange pumpkin, glowing yellow through its eyes, nose, and mouth, surrounded by glass beads and fungi and moss. A few candles, not all lit. On stage left at the edge of the screen, a skull rests. Perched on the skull is a black tarantula with orange and yellow banded legs.

The government is in full shutdown and the Republicans are refusing to call the House back into session.

Want to know why?

Because we have secured the final vote on releasing the Epstein Files and they don’t want it out.

Call GOP and tell them to swear in @adelitaforcongress.bsky.social.

The customer support rep was very nice, assured me they took down my comment in full, and that my comment would be passed on to "higher ups".

[1] was a footnote I took out for lack of space and didn't remember to delete the marker, so here it was:

[1] I don't remember exactly how long, but I remember Lillyhammer premiering on Netflix and that was 2012 according to wikipedia, so sometime before then.

As someone who is a hobbyist archivist I cannot recommend enough making your own physical copies of any queer and trans media that is important to you sooner rather than later.

If Netflix capitulates to their demands, an already strained market for LGBTQ+ animators might become even more dire.

Elon Musk Leads Campaign To Force Netflix To Remove Shows With Trans Characters
Musk's posts have been seen by tens of millions of users, and many conservatives are now attempting to force Netflix into a removal of LGBTQ+ content.

Calling Netflix 1-866-952-4456 to say "I've been a customer since before 2012 [1] and if Netflix starts removing shows with trans and queer characters from its programming I will cancel my subscription" took me maybe two minutes.
explodingarrow.bsky.social
If you have two minutes free right now, call Netflix and leave a comment in support of this programming and ask them to stand up for their shows against political pressure.

Phone number is 1-866-952-4456, and I waited less than a minute before a human picked up.
