Obsessive about noisy indie music. Shoegazer. Town planning ‘geek’. ‘Legacy’ MCFC fan and self-confessed ‘Bert’. Cheerful cynic. Mancunian. Overthinker, insomniac and proud dad. Old twitter refugee.

October’s listening so far.

The new Just Mustard record is incredible and is on repeat play currently - a must buy in my opinion.

The Gouge Away and Godspeed records are perfect oldies.

The Fall and Wedding Present compilations reflect two of my all time favourite bands.

I think I’m sitting next to the most entitled lad of all time on the train down to Birmingham. ‘Attitude’ doesn’t describe the half of it!

Brentford away it is then…..

Current ear worm that’s been stuck in my head all week.

One for all you shoegazers out there.

You want some hardcore with a touch of post rock and shoegaze thrown in? Of course you do…..

For the record, Gouge Away’s last LP, ‘Dark Sage’, was one of the LP’s of last year imo.

Let the celebrations begin.

Best sight in football - United fans disappearing before the end of a derby defeat. No doubt they’ll be creating a myth that they all stayed until the end …. as usual.

Watching the Southampton v Portsmouth game and the crowd started singing ‘one Ricky Hatton’. Thought I must of misheard. Sadly I didn’t.

RIP champ. You represented the blue side of Manchester with distinction and you’ll always be a proper ‘Bert’.

Changed the face of modern goalkeeping in my opinion. Farewell, Ederson. A City great without a doubt.

Fulham getting absolutely ‘sawn off’ by the referee / VAR this afternoon. I’d be furious if I was a Fulham fan. #twoniltothereferee

Cod you believe it? Absolutely, hysterical United result. Well played Grimsby. You did yourself and your league proud.

A couple of people had this on their musical timelines in the last few days so I thought I’d give it play today. Conclusion: I’d forgotten how good it is. A bit of an under appreciated album that fizzes with lots of ideas and hooks. Worth an hour of your time in my opinion.

Our Grace has had Covid and a crumbling school caused by dodgy concrete to cope with during her school career…. and yet she’s still ace’d her GCSE’s.

Never been a prouder that I have such a clever daughter …. and pleased she doesn’t take after her dad!

United’s new season - £200 million of new striking talent on the pitch. Fans optimistic that they’ll see some goals this season.

First game = No goals at home. Maguire playing centre forward at the end of the game. Goalkeeping error gifts opponents their victory.

Same as last season then….

It is quite beyond me how much of the world just don’t get the genius of the Brian Jonestown Massacre. They remain almost peerless and utterly spellbinding in my humble opinion.

Turnstile currently taking their hardcore steamroller and flattening / obliterating the Other Stage at Glastonbury.

I’ve always thought they’re great, but wow, they’re now an utter musical force of nature!

Kim Deal - New Century Hall MCR 17th June 2025. A magical night out.

Totally agree with Richard. A lovely gig.
Kim Deal - New Century, Manchester

She played her gorgeous solo album in it’s entirety - followed by songs from The Breeders catalogue.

And then she played “Gigantic” 😁❤️🙌🏻

“Gigantic” and “Cannonball” complete with a string section and horns. Didn’t think they need them? You will now 😁🙌🏻 🎻🎺

This week’s listening.

Not a bad record amongst them, but I’m particularly enjoying the new Kathryn Joseph, Stereolab and Steve Queralt LP’s and wallowing in some Loop, Xmal Deutschland, Chapterhouse and Rilo Kiley nostalgia.
