The Insular Cases are an egregious source of ongoing de jure racial discrimination. I contributed to an effort to overturn them years ago that died at the cert stage. I’m glad @boltsmag.org is bringing attn to this issue because Am. Samoans deserve to have this wrong remedied one way or another
American Samoans, unique among *everyone* born in US states or territories, are denied US citizenship.
That means they are banned from voting.
That's made some a target of vicious GOP prosecution for fraud; even if they were told incorrect info from public officials.

Incredibly disappointing. Crimes against our election systems should be treated as what they are: crimes against the republic itself. Significantly more serious than, say, the drug or financial crime charges that routinely get sentences as long or longer.
Gov. Polis tells CBS that Tina Peters' sentence is "harsh" and he's considering clemency for her. Peters, sentenced to 9 years on 4 felonies, has never disavowed her role as county clerk to breach her own election system to prove Trump's lie that he won 2020.
