The University of Dundee has a women problem

“In our view this culture of sexism runs deeper than the sidelining of women speaking up and out and persists beyond the ignominious end of Iain Gillespie’s tenure as Principal of the university.”

oh hey, government, this is why you SORT OUT THE FUNDING SYSTEM for universities alongside getting governance sorted. Because otherwise you're going to have to keep throwing good money after bad. Because we all know you cannot afford a university *actually* going under, however ballsy you sound.

Scottish government Ministerial statement on Dundee University confirms an instruction to the SFC to provide £40m to the university, on top of £27m already funded. A £40-£60m liquidity gap remains, to be filled from commercial sources. Presumably the public money de-risks the prospect for banks

Another £40m for University of Dundee from Scottish govt. Underlines how bad things are there - but can’t help feeling other Scottish unis would have liked a share of the £62m now handed to Dundee when they were cutting jobs, etc www.timeshighereducation.com/news/dundee-...

Amazing that when a distressed university's financial situation is subject to parliamentary hearings and an independent investigation, the senior leaders and governors resign and redundancies are called off.

We need this level of scrutiny for every university in England.

Absolutely infuriating that this is the end point of vastly inflated salaries for Vice Chancellors and other top admin whose obsence pay raises at a time of pension cuts were always justified on the grounds that only they could manage the new era of competitive marketized higher education.

We are extremely concerned by the letter from Ernst and Young, auditors at the University of Dundee.

The letter suggests that executives submitted inaccurate responses during the auditing process.

extremely insightful report from Liverpool Hope about the financial state of the university and the long-term risks posed by the course closures and redundancies.

Redundancies Are Not the Solution
The VS scheme. Course closures. Promotion deferral. Deletion of course combinations.
Redundancies. These have been some of the University's highlights for the past 1.5 years.
Taken together, these actions represent a sustained and escalating attack on the livelihoods
of dedicated staff at LHU and the integrity of the country's HE sector as a whole. None of these
‘solutions’ have made or will ever make LHU financially sustainable in the long-term. These are
short-sighted and unjust initiatives that have eroded and will continue to erode the trust and
morale of the very people who have committed their lives and careers to the mission of LHU:
to inspire and support students from all walks of life and, crucially, to educate students in the
round - i.e., to show them that learning is a quest for truth, honesty, and goodness.
Redundancies may save some money in the short-term but universities around the country
are consistently and repeatedly underestimating
