Do you want to know how UCU senior management has responded to UCU branches calling on them to remove their threat of deductions? This is how.

How would you react?

Screenshot of email from UCU management which reads: ASOS Attendance Form - New Weekly Survey
Starting Monday 22 September, all staff will receive an email with a link to the new ASOS attendance form. This short weekly survey is mandatory for all staff, whether you were on ASOS or not. Please make sure to complete it each week, failure to do so may result in pay deductions. The cut off each week will be Friday at 5pm.

Our branch secretary, @stuartwhigham.bsky.social, explains why our members should vote yes ❌ and yes ❌ in the local ballot. Stuart outlines the impact that wider cuts to workload tariffs will have on our Associate Lecturer colleagues.

As a union, we have been fighting employers’ attempts at making 100% pay deductions for ASOS legal since 2019. As a branch, we’ve been at the forefront of that fight since 2022.

Our own union going against our policies, workers’ interest, and legal cases hurts.

Letter: qmucu.org/2025/09/12/l...
QMUCU branch committee statement. We learnt with dismay about UCU Senior Managements’ threats of 100% pay deductions for Actions Short of Strike against Unite UCU members. We oppose these threats in the strongest of terms. They breach union policy voted on in congress. They replicate the worst employers' practice. They contravene our legal work challenging ASOS deductions. We express our solidarity with Unite UCU and call on UCU senior management to revoke these threats, protect all workers from disproportionate deductions, and negotiate with Unite UCU without preconditions.

We don’t want to strike. We want managers to sit down with us so we can work together to find alternative solutions!

Absolutely astounded that the UCU and Unison branches at Kent and Greenwich were not consulted, and that staff only found out about the merger this morning via BBC news and Kent Online. Solidarity to all colleagues.

We sent solidarity to our colleagues at Kent and Greenwich, we are stunned that the news broke to them this morning at the same time as the rest of us

For everyone else reading the news this morning about the Kent and Greenwich merger - it's been as big a shock for us too.
Rumours always abound with constant cuts and redundancies, but they remained rumours until 7.45am this morning.

Solidarity with our East Midlands colleagues. We are also experiencing this loss at present, with more to come.

UK HE is in a terrible state and some urgent action is needed.

Today was the last day at the University for so many of our colleagues taking voluntary redundancy, with even more leaving in October.

We appreciate all of you and will miss you dearly. We will continue to fight so that others aren't forced into making the same difficult choice

So, just to reiterate: PLEASE REGULATE THE USE OF EXTERNAL CONSULTANCIES, Government.

We all had a good laugh today, but it wasn't worth the millions this will have cost in tuition fee money going to some consultancy that is about to do exactly the same two towns over.

Self-inflicted embarrassment for the University of Warwick — first it rebrands hyper-generically, then someone totally unhinged decides the *front page of the uni website* should say ‘Learn more about our Brand’.
