Electronic Arts has announced it is being acquired and taken private in a $55 billion deal involving Silver Lake, Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, and Affinity Partners, which is founded and led by Donald Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner.

The deal is expected to close in 2027.

This is what misguided development looks like. A pristine, beautifully maintained historic house on the cusp of demolition. It's not corridor zoned, but will encroach into a very cohesive and functional neighbourhood and destroy one of the few remaining unspoiled Victorian streetscapes. It's called block-busting. This is being done by a developer who flouts the rules. (Doesn't have a demolition permit yet). And allowed by Halifax planning in the name of the housing crisis (or maybe tax greed). Tearing this down and replacing it with "luxury" condos or rentals does nothing for affordable housing. Luxury rentals are going begging. One developer has applied to the municipality to turn 20 apartments in a new build on Barrington St into Air BnB units because they can't rent them. Meanwhile the wholesale destruction of something distinct about Halifax continues.
