Why do HMG continue to contribute to the cesspit that is X (ex-Twitter)? Its algorithms skew right-ward & hate-ward. Its owner (Elon Musk) is openly hostile towards British law and practise, and is quite prepared to use his platform to attack them. Also, a substantial proportion of X postings come from bots - many from Russian propaganda operations, others from Iran, North Korea and hostile corporate . I fear that Ministers and MPs are gaining a false impression of the British; we really aren't that angry, that intolerant, that hateful. They may also be getting a false idea of the reach of their own postings - which are buried by the algorithms, unseen by constituents. It's not as if there are no alternatives. Neither Bluesky nor Mastodon have algorithms to be tweaked or corrupted. Both of these platforms offer the ability for HMG to self-verify their accounts, via their websites. In the case of Mastodon, HMG could run their very own instance, reataining comnplete control and security for their postings. It would be relative childsplay to start by mirroring HMG's existing X postings on Bluesky and/or Mastodon - with a view to transitioning away from that poisonous platform. Government's social media policy review is long overdue. I urge this goverment to use its considerable weight more judiciously.
