what i think is lacking from this "conversation" as I've been subjected to it, is that it's essentially a culture war between the urban core and suburban/rural periphery. people adopt antisocial ideas about transportation because cars are antisocial and they're permanently affixed to their lives.
When people say that their privacy is being invaded by engineering speed limits into the car, what they really mean is that their *private property rights* are being invaded. They just don't think that society should have any say over how people use their property.

Last week, ICE arrested and separated a father and son after a routine check-in. Six-year-old Yuanxin had just enrolled in the first grade at an elementary school in Astoria. Now he's in custody, alone. ICE won't say where. This cruelty serves no one. It must end.
