Thinking of every academic who has had to apply for grants to cover the cost of requesting and licensing images for their books with zero assistance from a publisher
This is such a remarkable thing to admit.

Gosh thanks, Elsevier, for charging libraries gobs of money for what seems extremely likely to be AI-generated junk (h/t to a colleague for finding this)

David Lynch. None of his work ever really spoke to me except for Mulholland Drive, but Mulholland Drive is probably the film of all films in the world that has most shaped how I think and perceive and imagine. What a loss. variety.com/2025/film/ne...

Whatever does or doesn't come of the Neil Gaiman allegations, the fact remains that many many people (myself included, to an extent) have spent years extolling The Sandman, whose much-beloved protagonist condemned a woman to eternal torture for *checks notes* rejecting his advances 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

Why is everything Aldi sells either a very basic pantry staple or absolutely chaotic nonsense in edible form?? In other news, I tried their pumpkin pie seltzer so you don't have to.

If we count *me* being painfully on-brand, def the time I met Alison Bechdel and said of Are You My Mother "I'm not sure if this book has helped my relationship with my mom, but it has helped my relationship TO my relationship with my mom" ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Okay, what’s the most ON-BRAND celebrity interaction you’ve ever had?

I once found Christopher Hitchens wandering around drunk and disoriented at ten in the morning, and showed him where his speaking engagement was.

1000% sincere when I say that a student approaching me for research assistance with their capstone on poop in art and literature has brightened my week a thousandfold and also becoming an academic librarian is the best choice I ever made📚💩

"The very idea of the common good has been lost in the discussions about WVU’s catastrophic cuts; the significance of a public university has been forgotten...A public university is neither the buildings on a campus nor the endowment nor its figureheads. [It is]...quite simply its people." ❤️
A lot of space has been devoted to the crisis at WVU.

But what else could, and should, a public university be?

For The Boston Review, @johannawinant.bsky.social, @jessiew.bsky.social & I examine the past, present, & future of public education.
