A friend in Minneapolis just sent me this video. Looks like thousands have come together for a vigil after an ICE agent shot and killed 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good. This was my neighborhood for several years before coming to Portland.

AOC: ICE has less accountability than virtually any law enforcement agency in the U.S., yet they are some of the most well-funded, operating with impunity—and we just saw them murder an American citizen in cold blood in the street.

A replication of the Stanford Prison Experiment* looked at the difference in applicants just when they included the word "prison" in the ads and when they just said they were looking for people to participate in a psych experiment. Those who responded to the former rather than the latter 1/
Last week, we published a story detailing ICE's strategy for recruiting new officers, including targeting "gun rights" supporters and geo-fencing ads around gun shows.

Ex-ICE director told me: “That mentality you’re fostering tends to inculcate in people a certain aggressiveness"

So I'm wondering today how all the lawyers at firms that caved to Trump—and also Sullivan & Cromwell, which is representing him on his criminal appeal—are feeling about how things are going?

Are your draws worth it?

On his podcast today, the Vice President of the US threatened to revoke the non-profit tax exemption from the Ford Foundation and the Open Society Foundation because they “funded” an article in the Nation. Ford last donated to the nation in 2019. OSF never did. (Gift link)

JD Vance vows retribution on liberal institutions after Charlie Kirk killing
Vice President JD Vance hosted Charlie Kirk’s podcast as he mourns his friend and potentially cements his position as the heir to the political movement built by Kirk, a powerful GOP force.

People should go without eating fish, and fisherman should go without work because what if the Trump admin thinks you might have drugs on board and obliterates your boat with a missile?
Trump: "We're seeing that there are no ships in the ocean anymore ... no there are no boats. I wonder why? Meaning, no drugs are coming across. Probably stopping some fishermen too. To be honest, if I were a fisherman, I wouldn't want to go fishing either. 'Maybe they think I have drugs downstairs'"

He was the FBI Director falsely announcing the apprehension of a murder suspect while the real killer was fleeing the scene. Seems like more than just a little mistake. I’m just glad Trump didn’t put him in charge of Air Traffic Controllers.

Excellent post by @jvl.bsky.social at his substack, arguing that modern "conservatism" isn't conservatism at all, it's a movement aiming at domination.

Also a repost of an @hcrichardson.bsky.social essay from 3 weeks ago discussing Movement Conservatism.

Both insightful, highly recommended.
“Today’s conservatives are certainly radical—they are hostile to the rule of law, subsidiarity, and institutions—but what they want isn’t so much change as domination…This isn’t a program that’s concerned with changing policies; it’s a fetish for domination.”
