Tonight in 1940 the medieval city of Coventry was smashed by a Luftwaffe raid. Today the ruined cathedral stands as a memorial, around it fragments of its historic environment survive. Here is the History Hit film on the raid.

"Through 1950, census-takers commonly determined the race of the people they counted. From 1960 on, Americans could choose their own race. Starting in 2000, Americans could incl. themselves in more than 1 racial category. Before that, many multiracial people were counted in only 1 racial category."
The different race, ethnicity and origin category names in the U.S. census have often changed in a reflection of changing politics and public attitudes. Explore those changes, from the first census in 1790 to the latest count in 2020.

Whoa.

At my first ever Celtic festival and highland games this weekend. In Tucson, AZ. I am very warm right now. Thank the stars for cold cider and beer.

My clan booth is a local family of Armstrongs that showed up with their tartan and various clan items to rep. Bless ‘em. They are so sweet and proud. ❤️

Bluesky needs more travel & tourism publication & industry organization accounts. The big travel magazines/websites are notably absent. More DMOs need to be over here promoting their locations. More travel & tourism analysis pubs (Hi, @skift.com!), too.

There's a huge hole & at a critical time.

I know a lot of folks have moved to using newsletters and even replacing their websites with the newsletter's platform/site. But, there are still a lot of people that have websites with feeds, so those are the folks I'm appealing to.

Also, my inbox weeps daily under the heavy load.
I'm creating a genealogy feed in my newest RSS feed app, and unfortunately, many of the blogs/publications I imported from another app no longer exist. ☹️

So, if you have a genealogy or history blog or are an org/society publication with a RSS feed, please drop a link below!

Happy to reskeet, too.!

Some food for thought: if you're reviewing a book & it has good, useful maps, say so in the review! And name the mapmaker if you can.

Often, folks writing books don't know where to go for good maps. Making mention of them in your review helps everyone.
