In 2026, I'll still be #oneofthetwo because I rely on my health to work & I think everyone should be able to access public spaces as safely as possible.

I'm one of the three when I'm with my family & one of the seven with extended family. There are many people taking infection control seriously.

The Canadian graphs aren't Jan to Dec, like the Australian graphs. It's by weeks in the respiratory surveillance season starting August 30 (week 35). (And, sorry, because of the Canadian website layout, you're getting the Covid graphs too.) But look how long the 2023-24 and 2024-25 seasons are.

This. So many opinions on housing and density completely ignore occupancy rates. We have many new buildings that should increase density, but none of them are affordable. When you walk around the north end every building is advertising units. (from Dal Legal Aid)
Dalhousie Legal Aid Service Press Release: Nova Scotia rents increasing faster than national averagr, despite rising vacancy rates. According to the 2025 CMHC Rental Report, despite a higher vacancy rate, Hlifiax is seeing 6.7% rent increases while the national average is only 5.1% Key Takeaways from the report: 1. Tenant Turnover is Driving the Affordability Crisis, with new tenants seeing 23% increases on new units, while existing tenants saw only 4% increases. 2. High Provincial Rent-Cap is Fuelling Above-Average Rent Growth. The province's 5% rent cap is one of the highest in the country. The CMHC notes that landlords are increasingly applying the full allowable increase every year, an approach not seen in provinces with permanent, evidence-based rent control. 3. New Builds Aren't Delivering Affordability, despite increases in vacancy rates in areas with new rental construction, the CMHC found that new rental stock is largely unaffordable. Even though the vacancy rate is now at 2.7%, it's higher-end units sitting empty while lower-income households remain priced out.

This summary is more specific, and the majority of diagnosed disorders are speech, language, and motor function - so, people seem to be misrepresenting the study.

It's no secret that part-time contracts in Nova Scotia don't fairly compensate instructors for their labour. We're just starting to align with Ontario wages from the early 2000s. When I moved back to Halifax from Ottawa in 2010, I was appalled by my first contracts at the Mount and SMU. 🧵

It would be pretty hypocritical to encourage gen AI use in a course about colonialism. And, when you understand how humans learn, you realize there's no benefit to using gen AI tools in undergraduate classes. So, this is what I include in my syllabus:
Learning is a process of creativity and trust. For this class, please don’t use generative artificial intelligence (AI) to summarize readings, compose your assignments or responses. The authors of the course readings have not consented to adding their work to gen AI. While in some classes, learning to create AI prompts might be important, it’s not a learning outcome for this course. This is a course about colonialism, and we want to try and reduce activities that perpetuate colonial practices like resource extraction and exploitation.

As we watch emerging book bans in Alberta, I stand so hard behind these tweets that sparked outrage in 2023.

It's never been about vaccines or masks. Those in favour of authoritarianism (who believe they'll benefit from it) use the pandemic as a crisis to create a following & advance
fascism.
