I just asked the マスター and he said this shop had been going for 50 years. And he thinks this building will still be around for a long time. I really hope so!

An example of the massive crows

The only have me a few seconds to snap a photo before cawing at me and leaving to somewhere they won’t be bothered.

It’s 10am here and I’ve made myself very hungry, even after eating breakfast, by looking at my own photos.

Time to be a hobbit and have a second breakfast

And my friend also took me to a Hakata ramen place in Naha. Owner is a transplant from Kyushu. Says you can get really good pork in Okinawa and there is no local custom of using the bones and the head. So very good cost performance for him. 美味

Reporting back as promised!

Okinawa soba is insanely good! no comparison to anything I remember having in Tokyo

So I always assumed it had origins from this

Considering that my mom as a child did not have running water in their first house, hand pump outside, you definitely heated up water to wash and another container to rinse. My grandma was one of those super clean German ladies but this was reality.
Only an outhouse as well and chamber pot at night

You know, human, there is this thing that humans use called lip gloss. This here is nose gloss. It’s for dogs of high fashion sense.

Oh yeah. Give me a Chicago Italian Beef with a good dose of giardiniera on top!
December 3, 2025 at 8:27 AM
This Sunday I’m meeting a few friends here in Tokyo at a craft beer place that makes mini Chicago style deep dish pizzas - and they are pretty darn good. Get my fix for now at least.
December 3, 2025 at 6:24 AM
Well this will be worth a visit

Now just need someone to make proper tavern pizza - the true Chicago pizza

Disclaimer: I absolutely love both pizza styles. But a Chicago hot dog usually beats both for me

If that was the time maybe 8 years back I remember seeing all those trees cracked and busted. We had one touch down a couple blocks away in Birkenhead once too. Little ones all of them compared to tornado alley in the US of course. Fortunately.

Went to university in Champaign-Urbana and it was a regular siren song.

Grew up close enough to Lake Michigan that we seldom really had to worry. Next counties over are notorious for tornadoes.

Definitely one of this “if you know, you know”

I worked at Great America (northern Illinois) as my summer job in high school. One evening the flags on top of two of the tallest rides were blowing in opposite directions. And the sky was turning green. Scared. Luckily no tornado.
December 3, 2025 at 3:35 AM
As long as it never turns that eerie green before a tornado. Have fortunately never seen that in NZ.
