The life of one of the most remote grizzly bear populations in the world is being documented by the animals themselves, with collar cameras that provide a rare glimpse of how they survive on Alaska’s rugged and desolate North Slope.

For the last couple of years there has been a massive influx of US private equity and other investment into Japan. What if the support for higher value yen is to help those investors harvest some profit. No taxes in exchange rate gains, right?
Coordinated intervention chatter changes the bet on the yen as the U.S., in theory, has unlimited dollars at its disposal.

Hint that U.S. will help support currency gets the attention of traders and investors.

Happy birthday Bob! This great ape is 20 today 🦧

Bob is known throughout the Oregon Zoo for his unique bond with 3-year-old Jolene. Though male orangutans typically don't play much of a role in parenting, Bob is an active father who can often be seen playing with and caring for his daughter 💕

A “Kellerbier” version of my Landlord clone. Kegged two days ago and this is from a mini keg of excess. Tastes amazing already

We may be in for some wild weather for the next 60+ hours.

Topped up the fuel in our two generators, got the extension cords ready. Need to get some buckets of water filled to flush toilets as I may not run an extension cord to the pump.

I marinated some salmon in soy sauce, sugar, hondashi and sake. When I drained the liquid before broiling the salmon I added some water and braised some leftover daikon radish.

This is a comfort food for me and this weather definitely calls for exactly this

Today really feels like I day I should have prepared to eat unagi. None in the freezer. Next time I’m down to Auckland I need to buy some.

Korean cold noodles for lunch and soba for dinner. Probably sōmen tomorrow if it is this hot again.

Wow it’s hot out!

I went out early to do some scything. Got a good portion done and also an area with a ton of thistles down by my barn. But then had to stop. Was too hot even before 10am

Cool shower outside by my sauna and still felt hot.

Inside and later in the hammock for the rest of the day.
