I’m this issue Kotozakura later Yokozuna and grandfather to the current Zakura, was an ōzeki. Takamiyama (Jesse, the first foreigner to get a yūshō - would help start the Hawaiian wave) and Takanohana (father to the Waka era brothers) were konmusubi.

Yes early on there was a lot of that. Buying them at 100 yen a pop. 🤗

They were more ad hoc. Made with little rhyme or reason locally. And often not magazine style paper, a lot less photos etc.
