Even though there are plenty of reasons to suspect that the Stinger from the first Kirby Air Riders Direct isn't related to Dark Matter, I hope it is anyway. Because playing as Dark Matter Blade would be neat. Genuinely one of the coolest looking villains in the entire series if you ask me.

I wonder what made him speak that way in the latter. I like to imagine he was putting on a front, in order to not demoralise the gang by letting them know he had already lost to the artifact. It would just add to the tragedy that established by the first pause screen and the fight's conclusion.

And don't get me started on the Pause Screen descriptions. Specifically the ones from the True Arena. The first urging you on to rescue him, the gang still seeing the dear friend in him despite everything. And the second is him directly speaking to Kirby, keeping a tsundere façade.

So while his betrayal is sad, it's honestly gladdening to see that after it all, he learns, he reflects, and grows beyond the artifact that he tried to control, destroying it for (hopefully) good in the process.

But you meet the guy several times over mandatory, once after each world is complete. And beyond that, you can talk to him whenever you want. And if you got Magolor Helper turned on, he even assists you during the adventure! There's plenty of opportunity for the player to get attached to the guy!

That shit is HARROWING. The True Arena is one of the few, if not only instances, where a series of events locked behind additional challenges, is THE BAD ENDING TO THE STORY. And if it was a case like Marx, where you only met him at the start and end of the story, it wouldn't hit as hard.

And when you beat the husk, he's not even granted the mercy of death. His body and the crown are sent into a portal, to an unknown destination. I believe it's implied here that the crown is free to recuperate and recover.
A friend permanently gone, and a threat not yet dealt with.

The fight gets even harder, but not before the boss, magolor, throws out one simple apple, allowing you to regain your health, before two of its eyes disappear, leaving only the one the eye in its mouth left. A sign that, as in the originally envisioned bad ending, Magolor's gone.

But Kirby loves its What-If scenario's. And Return to Dream Land... didn't have one. With one exception: The remake's True Arena. Or to be more specific: How it remixed the Magolor Soul fight. The phase from the Extra Mode (while harder) was shortened, and a new phase was added.

Ultimately, they decided to only keep the 100% ending (the Master Crown shattering and Magolor being released from its control), while leaving the bad ending, in which Magolor ended up forever lost, his body fully taken over by the crown.
