I start every day on social media with a post of #Gratitude. This habit developed during Covid lockdown & it changed my life for the better. So I've held on to it.
In this first post of #2025, I find myself thinkng about *the beauty of frost*. It softens everything. Like time, it heals jagged edges.

If you can watch this and then think ‘I won’t share because that might be putting myself on the line’ then you know what you’d have done if you were in Germany when your Jewish neighbours were being loaded into to cattle trucks. Nothing. Please share - it’s our ‘I’m Spartacus moments

Today, the UK government intends to ban the non-violent protesters Palestine Action as a "terrorist" group, exposing anyone supporting them to terrorism charges. In 2 days, 380,000 people have watched this video on YT alone.

When the education system demands things that aren't developmentally appropriate, you end up creating issues not solving them. Young children are not meant to be static for long periods of time. If we insist they are, we create 'behaviour problems' that are actually just children behaving normally.

I stopped to speak to these swans recently. I thanked them for the lessons they offer in Gracefulness. #Grateful to start my day with that wisdom.

When you are tidying & carrying too many things at once & the confetti goes everywhere. #Grateful for a mess.
I think I'll leave it in place.

And… so it continues.

We must create opportunities for collectiveness & community. No one can raise children alone. Part of the problem with our neoliberal, capitalist society is that we created this model of nuclear families where all the adults now work & childcare is outsourced. It doesn't work well.

Petra, I talk & think about this a lot. Both things are true. Parents (mothers) often cope with huge emotional loads / living circumstances and also parents' emotional patterns shape infant development. I talk about shame as one response to knowing this. I hope that helps reduce shame.

Very very bleak. Agreed.

Hey Petra. I agree this piece didn't talk about that much. It is why we need to contextualise lives. If you are in the midst of grief or in a scary neighbourhood or in a violent relationshp or workng in a stressful job, those will create tough emotions -- that go on to shape the child's development.

"One of the most striking findings of this century is that cicrumstances & environment can change genetic mechanisms. This happens through a process called epigenetics."
In other words, trauma leaves a footprint.

A quote card titled 'Strong families aren't those without
conflict – they're the ones who learn to manage it.' The text emphasizes that managing conflict, rather than avoiding it, is key to building strong family relationships. It encourages viewers to visit SCCR’s Learning Zone for Parents and Carers on their website for practical advice on resolving family conflict.
