'Prayer Stone’ • Inis Mór

This small stone was found at Temple Breccan on Inis Mór. The stone bears an Irish inscription:

OR[ÓlT] AR BRAN N AILITHER

'Pray for Bran the Pilgrim'.

It is likely to date to c.8-10th century. You can see it on display in the National Museum of Ireland.

Dad’s books are full of empathy, common sense, and a healthy suspicion of the powerful. But at its heart his work is also about how systems keep people poor while pretending it’s their own fault. So I hope Kemi’s taking notes as well as reading the jokes.

Manchán Magan 1970 - 2025 💔

Craoltóir, scríbhneoir agus Gael. Ní bheidh a leithéid arís ann.

Thar na blianta, chruthaigh sé & chuir sé i láthair an t-uafás cláracha do TnaG & TG4. Tá oidhreacht shaibhir fágtha aige dúinn a thabharfaidh inspioráid don chéad ghlúin eile 🕯️

Is briseadh mór croí dom an scéal a chloisteáil faoi bhás Mhanchán Magan ar maidin. Thug sé beocht agus brí nua don teanga trína chuid oibre ag léiriú gur lionsa eile í an Ghaeilge leis an domhan a fheiceáil agus a thuiscint.

This decorated copper axe dates to around 1900-1700 BC, the beginning of Ireland's Bronze Age.

It was found deep in a bog in Brockagh, County Kildare. The anaerobic bog preserved the leather sheath and its strap remarkably well.
See it on display in @nmireland.bsky.social

The Irish far right are so brazenly incurious and gullible that they'll believe anything their British masters tell em.

You have to be catastrophically stupid to try and start a panic about the Star and Crescent in DROGHEDA. It's always been our symbol.

Hey, remember when the Panama Papers were released and they showed how basically every wealthy person on the planet was avoiding taxes by offshoring their money and nothing was done about it except the reporter who broke the story was murdered with a car bomb?

Interesting insight into the consternation Bernadette Devlin caused to Irish diplomats in the US, due to both her criticism of the Irish govt’s neglect of the North and refusal to cosy upto conservative Irish Americans. What an inspiration! www.rte.ie/brainstorm/2...
