I think its exactly the opposite: it is very unlikely Altman or OpenAI did not anticipate blowback, they just hoped it would be insignificant enough for them to ignore.
In response to a question about why OpenAI changed its policy, Altman said that it came from speaking with stakeholders and suggested he hadn’t expected the outcry.

“I think the theory of what it was going to feel like to people, and then actually seeing the thing, people had different responses,” Altman said. “It felt more different to images than people expected.”

so many things that it doesn't cover
sven.blacksky.app
ah, and it doesn't cover the ghost work, making it sound like the "AI" is ✨magical✨

[Eg: French documentary w/ subtitles about invisible "AI" workers in Madagascar]

it also doesn't cover the energy use (maybe because that's a technical problem!?)

I watched the whole thing, it does cover the "AI" bubble and assert that we don't know if there is a bubble and also folks who question "AI" efficiency irt. its valuations needs to be humble because a bunch of very smart people in wall-street knows what they're doing.

I sat down for a nice long chat on the Nick Standlea Show
about the economics of AI: How it's changing our labor market, who it's going to help and hurt, how policy can help, and what each of us can do to stay relevant.

Lecornu like: "Alors, j'ai bougé...
J'ai dû m'en aller...
Partir, bifurquer...
J'ai dû m'évader...
J'ai dû m'enfuir...
J'ai dû partir...
J'ai dû m'éclipser...
J'ai dû me camoufler...
J'ai dû disparaître...
Pour réapparaître..."

Le Premier ministre démissionnaire pourrait finalement rester. Le scénario d'un gouvernement Lecornu II est en effet sur la table.

This cute AI pusher interview has NO mention the energy consumption of these "AI" systems

I really believe that huge majorities of Americans don’t want masked soldiers shooting priests in the street. They don’t want naked children ripped out out of their apartments in the middle of the night and handcuffed. We win by making sure these stories get told.

The same people who insisted devout Catholic Joe Biden was leading a “war on Christianity” are now cheering Trump on as his armed goons assault clergymen.

what is weird and alarming is that Peterson's daughter seems to believe that he is assailed by demons and that is what is causing his illness.

gotcha

the other positive argument is that most folks are lazy (I am in some ways) and also a ✨magical✨ box where you input anything and have it ✨magically✨ output something can be very profitable (for the ✨magical✨ box makers)

Ah yes. In no way is this repeated usage of the image of arguably one one of the most famous disabled people in history symptomatic of a eugencist society running on meta-eugenic structures. Nor is is it indicative of the way gen AI enhances the fash aesthetics. In. No. Way. AT ALL. (!) /sarcasm

Genuine question - what are OpenAI’s Sora and other video generation tools good for?

I am honestly trying to understand what is so important that it’s worth the cost. If you have examples, I would be interested to hear them.

They think this is good.

We can’t fight or even properly discuss this if we don’t start flipping the questions

Because the question is

“Why do all of their technologies turn to abuse vectors of the least defended and respected identities”

And the abuse of those who transcend their bias
