I'm confused. In the US, the national parties use the terms "tragedy" & "unfortunate" and top it off with "our prayers are with the families" and that's the end of it. Australia (and the rest of the world) shows there are other things that can be done other than just wishing the problem away.

People have already missed multiple mortgage & auto loan payments and won't be able to afford their health insurance come Jan 1. Might as well max out what's left on the credit cards and live it up now.

The GOP doesn't realize they are nowhere near the authoritarian control threshold for this to NOT look ridiculous to the average person. People are starving and can't afford healthcare and the elites are giving the "leadership" participation trophies.
