Ha! I like how someone had a personal rule about what to send which they call “the mother-in-law test”, as in, if you’re sending a card, would it still be acceptable to a slightly judgmental MIL?

Currently waiting for the BART and it is too early in the morning for whoever it is blaring a telenovela on their mobile device.

Now at grocery store. It feels like an apocalypse with how cleared out everything is. I just want to get some essentials.

Ugh. The rush hour traffic is insane today. I guess because all of next week is a holiday for some people, they have to turn into soulless gremlins on the road. (I have to work until the end of Wednesday.)

Saw some internet outrage and one thought I had was that this person could have avoided all the outrage dumped on their head if they could have just gone to a therapist instead and not acted out their inside thoughts and told the internet that they were not sorry.

Ah, almost forgot to post—an unexpected attendee at one of my meetings today.

OMG, I hate being forced to use AI for work. Revising these AI generated summaries takes way longer than if I had just written them myself. I log my time in 15 min increments so management will get an earful once I’ve logged enough time points.

I've just tried the Trader Joe's furikake snack mix and I actually like it. Probably because I went into it with zero expectations. If you read the reviews, some people hate it with a heat of a thousand suns. I don't really understand their hate. I would get it again.

Went to a “Krampus Market” which was located in a church. Parts of it felt like a bunch of commercialized occultist wannabes and BDSM enthusiasts had attempted to turn the place into a boudoir. And a number of patrons were gay guys drinking mimosas.

My mind boggles at people ranting about how addresses aren't private and they feel deeply uncomfortable that where they live is visible on mail. I mean, that's the whole purpose of mail. Get a PO box instead. Or if you're so paranoid, just go out into the wilderness and not receive any mail at all.

Hm. I thought Finland wasn't sending any mail to the US due to all the geopolitical crap going on, but I received a postcard from there today. I guess that's changed?

@acerbicotter.bsky.social I received your two postcards today! Very cool. Thank you. :)

Ugh. Trying to get to a morning write-in and nearly got chomped on by a dog when I was trying to get into a cafe. Fortunately my jacket stopped it. Also it tried to chomp the old lady walking behind me, too. Why do people not train their dogs?!!!

If anyone's wondering (which I know you're not), I'm writing this month but not with any org. Currently I'm at 56k which is probably the fastest I've ever written (my normal pace is half of this). I would say it's a mix of having an outline and doing sprints for 2-3 hours non-stop every evening.

The value of reading history is you know that in 1860 there were abolitionists who were so demoralized that they thought chattel slavery would be permanent. 5 years later those still alive had lived to see its end.

Geez. A postcard I sent from Paris early July finally got to its recipient in another European country today. You can’t blame the USPS on that one.

I don’t get parents who are obsessed with their kid’s report cards. My parents didn’t look at mine and I think I did ok. Then again, I was the sort of kid who kept to myself and enjoyed learning. Some kids have no self control and need a lot of guidance.

I'm reading this profile of this lady with picky postcard preferences. Apparently she hates multiview cards. I looked at the postcards she received and apparently the Germans sent her a bunch of multiviews (ha!). I know Germans know English very well--I think her pickiness just pissed them off.
