If you showed me the cartoon version and asked me who in our department I thought it was, you wouldn't even be in the Top 20.

It feels like the statement "I want to get this in before the gov shutdown" should be more rare than it has been in my life.

Evil Dead Rise is one of my favorites in that franchise. Alyssa Sutherland was made for this role. Looking forward to your countdown!

Loved Weapons, and agree that it did veer towards humor. IMO there was an interesting commentary on what happens after we see the villain get their comeuppance. With that catharsis there was also a deep sadness that nothing really was fixed with it. The Alex chapter was particularly well done.

Oh it was so good to see you! Such a good reminder that for how much we can struggle in science it brings me people like you.

Thoughtful review on an excellent movie:

“he’s underlining the fallacy of catharsis…vanquishing evil doesn’t undo the terrors it has already wrought—and that there’s only so much relief a conclusion can actually bring.”

Job Alert!!! We are looking for a motivated postdoc to join a 3-year BBSRC funded project led by my colleague Carl Stevenson (I’m coPI). This multi-disciplinary project will combine in vivo heart rate monitoring and optogenetics with behavioural testing (fear and active avoidance) in rats.

Maybe it was like in Arrested Development where George is constantly trying to teach his kids a lesson. “And THAT’S why you always wear closed-toe shoes in lab!”

Toe-tally unsure: I think stock photo from roughly 2004 if I am placing the flip flops correctly. I definitely had a very similar pair. However, not pictured is the QR code on this poster, suggesting it was made more recently than 2004. Maybe just used an old image?

This lab safety poster shows that the glass was already broken when it hit the foot, suggesting foul play. A mystery is afoot.

People tell you that staying up all night is the hardest part of having a baby, when in reality it’s also staying up all day.
