Someone told me once that regardless of degree completed, a "Physicist" is just one who studies physics. In that context, I like to think of myself a physicist moreso than any of my other professions or skills. Which are humorous in number at this point.

My reading streak has hit 701 days in a row. When it hits 731 I plan to put the kindle down for a bit and pick up a few of the physical books that I've halfway read. Figure I'll start back on on "Oak Flat" by Lauren Redniss. And I remind you of this humorous coincidence from 281 days ago...

To lighten the mood a bit, here's a photo from when I was home for the holidays of two of my dogs playing in my back yard.

The husky is Nyx, and as you can see the fluffening has begun. The foxhound is Radar, and he is a goober.

Two dogs play in the backyard of a house in the early winter. The ground is not snow-covered, but the trees except for some evergreens visible in the background are bare and the leaf litter covers the ground. A husky who has begun to shed is in the left of the frame sniffing the same spot on the ground as a foxhound who is near the center of the frame.

The other day I walked to a nearby liquor store for some beer and mead. I grabbed the camera with me on the way out as it was snowing. I discovered this which gave me pause to think. Our dependence on fossil fuels extends well beyond gasoline, as this chair's upholstery is made of plastic.

Took another sunrise trip to Point Judith this morning, to put the M11-P to use with the Thambar. A bit cloudier than I’d hoped for, but a beautiful scene nonetheless the less.

The shoreline stretches from the middle left of the frame across to the lower right, there’s just enough light to make out the dark green of the grass. The sea, while not calm, is not overly rough. A soft glow permeates the frame, emphasized heavily by a halo surrounding the lighthouse light.

In the distance, some harbor seals can be made out resting on top of a rock in the bay. The rock is visible because the tide is low. The camera used to photograph the seals. It sits atop a tripod with a long 600mm telephoto lens mounted. The seals are not very close.

My attempts to photograph harbor seals yesterday afternoon and c/2025 a6 Lemmon last night were a bust, but in the process I did get to photograph this phenomenon of a rainbow occurring inside a cloud. So the day wasn't a total loss.

A thin whispy cloud is partially colorized internally by a "rainbow" showing hues of yellow, orange, and red on it's westernmost end (towards the right of the frame). The cloud itself is on the lower left, and the rainbow effect is near the center of the frame. I do a lot of photography, and like to take advantage of the rendering of vintage lens designs, and also lenses with extreme optical properties, both examples below were vintage optical designs (50s and 60s)
