Most things have gotten so cheap that fixing them doesn’t make economic sense. How much would you have to pay someone to do the same fix? Likely much more than the cost of a new fan.

One thing I really enjoy is fixing things, especially when the thing to fix and the fix itself are cheap.
I had this fan that was mostly working but sometimes struggled to get started. Turns out it’s a capacitor issue which can be replaced for $3 and 20 minutes.
Better than getting a whole new fan.

We’re back!
This is from a handful of sessions.
I don’t love making these types of sections because the colors are mixed and it’s hard to know where this is going. The flip side is that it’s nice when it’s starting to take shape!

Just saw this post yesterday.
“Colors and hues” belongs.

Finally framed and hung @tetrismegistus.bsky.social’s artwork, bought a few months ago.

I have another one that I’m looking forward to having framed. Much larger at 24x24. This one is 11x17.

Done!
I’m repeating myself but doing a quick one like that is so fun. Less pressure to get it right, I can move on, I could even redo it if I weren’t happy.
But I’m pretty happy! Sure it’s not perfect but it doesn’t need to be.

It’s so nice to do a piece that goes really fast. Sure it’s not perfect, and I still think the back stitches aren’t the ideal choice, but if I end up not happy with it, it’ll be only a few hours of work.

We’ll have to see how it looks once the paper is removed but I’m happy so far!

Instead of working on my existing #embroidery project, I decided to start a new one.
But it should be quick.
Command+K is the central keyboard shortcut in Superhuman. I created this design many years ago for shirts.

Pondering the back stitch but we’ll see how it ends up.

Just finished this… keychain?
Years ago, not long after I joined Superhuman, I came up with a pattern for the logo, and decided to do it again. My threads were too short for a whole bracelet so I stopped there.
My technique is a bit better but still imperfect.

I’ve made a tie dye shirt with Superhuman’s (my employer) logo. Kind of, at least. It turned out quite complex because the logo is not symmetrical and most similar patterns rely on symmetry. But I’ve found a (time-consuming) way. It’s not bad for a first try!

I just received this really cute and high quality embroidery kit as a work anniversary gift from work.
I’m very impressed by the quality of the kit!
It seems to exceed my current skill level but there’s only one way to increase one’s skills!

#Duolingo may not tell you when it switched to AI-generated lessons but there will be hints… 🤦🏻‍♂️

Very proud of this bracelet I just finished for my wife!
I love the colors. I came up with the pattern and it turned out perfectly symmetrical. First time I make an adjustable knot (which I didn’t invent but took some research) which seems to work well.

I’m quite impressed how Google Translate parsed out the hashtag and translated it such that each word is capitalized.

Came across the iA Presenter website and thought for a moment it was free and maybe open source because the top menu almost reads “how to support” instead of “how to” and “support”.

Speaking of… what the hell is this?!
A BluRay player that does not play discs, in “great condition”, but also “salvage”, and yet still $50.

Did some visible mending on my hoodie that was chewed up by our foster dog.
Not too bad. The cuff looked better in my head 😄 If I had to redo it, I’d try some kind of weaving maybe.
One problem I have is I feel the knots on the inside. I don’t know how I’m supposed to do that better.

Finished the second pink shade (actually finished all the floss, which was surprising since I had a lot of green left), and about halfway done with the third shade.
The first two stitches of the darker shade worried me a bit because they don’t look at all like the picture but it’s fine.

Progress on the mountains.
Two shades of pink so far. It’s interesting because it feels like the stitches should follow a bit of a flow field, so as I go I’m trying to sense where that should be. It’s not simple.

I finally redid the back of this embroidery piece I made last year.
Previously I had the basic tying of the extra fabric with thread.
Recently, I came across this technique of simply doubling the back with another piece of fabric and hot-glueing on the inside.
I like it.

The trees are done!
I went rogue and added a third green tone (from leftovers) to fill in between trees. The template lines didn’t quite match the suggested result so I had some gaps… 🤷🏻‍♂️
I hope it adds some debt to it.

First checkpoint: some trees.
I like starting with the easy parts to get a sense of progress. 😄

Here we go again, #embroidery!

First kit I use with so many colors!
This may take a while because it’s so many stitches and it covers the whole frame. On the flip side, one saving grace is that they all use six strands…
It’s going to be interesting.

Btw, do you split the floss when it’s 6 strands?
