My brain recognized these cropped images instantly even though my set of books had art by another artist. Looooooved those books. They saturated my 4th grade. I couldn’t wait to get back to them.

That first issue alone is full of so many incredible images. Now that I recall, I guess strictly speaking that’s it for “the run” I mentioned. Although I loved the Kirby/Severin issues as well.

I’m guessing you mean at the time, because I truly love Kirby’s art on his run every bit as much.

WOW. What ineffable storytelling! I want to show all the pages from New Gods 9, especially one I can’t. And the last page which I really can’t. Soaking in V/Parr/Cagle/Segala/Napolitano as something like an adult feels as good as reading Kirby/Royer as a kid. #RamV #NewGods #DCcomics

Wendell Berry read by Ralph Fiennes is what I needed to start my day. I watched The Return last night and though zero mention of the gods felt viscerally odd in that setting, I loved it. This page from Berry’s essay collection Citizenship Papers lives on my desktop as a reminder that facts ≠ truth.

Wendell Berry read by Ralph Fiennes is what I needed to start my day. I watched The Return last night and though zero mention of the gods felt viscerally odd in that setting, I loved it. This page from Berry’s essay collection Citizenship Papers lives on my desktop as a reminder that facts ≠ truth.
The Buck Rogers movie that would become the tv show pilot came out when I was 5. Loved it. When I was 6 we went to DC and I got this massive tome of the comic strips at the Air & Space museum and sent off the application to join Buck’s Solar Scouts. Wish I still had the membership card they sent me.

Filipe Andrade’s Mattoti-esque Black Racer issue stands out to me but all of the artists involved are standouts. Both modern & timeless so no better way to follow Kirby. Ram V is a renaissance for DC, his collaborations and the Absolute books have made me a fan again #comics #dc #ramv #felipeandrade

Went from preferring the grim “more realistic" (lol I was 13 at the time) mid 80s versions of characters like Dark Knight Returns to preferring the Super Friends/Adam West/Dick Sprang-era ones. By far the only version of Aquaman I’d want to be like. So long land & humanity where my octopuses at!?

Went from preferring the grim “more realistic" (lol I was 13 at the time) mid 80s versions of characters like Dark Knight Returns to preferring the Super Friends/Adam West/Dick Sprang-era ones. By far the only version of Aquaman I’d want to be like. So long land & humanity where my octopuses at!?

She is one of the very, veriest in my book, even in a cast as insane as Young Frankenstein, and this is one of my favorite moments in all moving pictures. Even better with the audio.
