So they can snuggle with you.

image: CAD layout of a multi-use lane; people walking are tranferred to a sidewalk while people on bikes should be able to continue onward into the general travel lane, bike lanes start on other side of the intersection.

The monthly newsletter for the International Palm Society is out (guest editor none other than our very own @scottzona.bsky.social) - I had to share this image, of a mini-forest of palm trees being transported by moped!

In light of all people on the internet who are desperate for the asskicking they so thoroughly deserve,

I present to you a deeply snoozing kitty

Awww yissss

Spring is springing big-time!

Seeds I collected at the tiny remnant food prairie, formerly maintained by the Samish people, of naked-stem biscuitroot Lomatium nudicaule are also popping out of the ground today!

BREAKING NEWS BULLETIN

You do not have to be a ghastly sex criminal nor apologist therefor to join me on this multi-million dollar super-yacht for a cruise to my friend's island

In fact, ghastly sex criminals and their friends are specifically NOT invited! Who knew this was possible?

Culture of life: sitting on a fairly pleasant street in the sun, reading* with a fancy Ugandan coffee because godh darn it the nightmares happen whether or not you get a little treat every so often

I looked to the roll call vote in the Washington State Senate on SB 5067, which reduces the legal blood-alcohol content for a DUI from 0.08% to 0.05%. The bill passed the Senate 26 to 23. 2 Republicans voted for the bill, and 5 Democrats voted no: Conway, Cortes, Kauffman, Krishnadasan, and Trudeau.

But now we get to the crux of the issue: For people driving, everything. For people outside of a vehicle, total chaos. Being cast into ditches. Forgotten, repelled, turfed out.

Check it out. This is *asinine*

Texas built some sidewalks but flat-out refused to connect them to the city sidewalks.
February 3, 2026 at 7:37 PM
Now, some of y'all might be thinking: Oh, look! There are, in fact, sidewalks on Texas Farm Road 1626 and Texas Farm Road 967! Yes - those were added, thankfully, in the mid-2010's when the roads were expanded.

Speaking of Gene & Joe Johnson High School: this is Stalinism, for cars
February 3, 2026 at 6:26 PM
This is the intersection of Texas Farm Road 967 (east-west) and Texas Farm Road 1626 (north-south). Texas Farm Roads are a type of state-operated highway.

Just out of scene to the west is the Buda Sportsplex & a middle school. A little further is Gene & Moe Johnson High School and an elementary.
February 3, 2026 at 6:23 PM
Check out the land use of Buda, TX in this area. Buda is a rapidly-sprawling suburb of Austin. It's kinda nowhere, but that's the point of these kinds of places. They are nowhere places, and anyone who needs to do anything needs to drive to do it, because there is no other reasonable way to move.
