I've heard the argument that because his behaviour is fine in Ruby spaces/events, then it's all good, but that to me is disingenuous to say the least when it's very clear from his posting just how he feels about large sections of the community.

Brandon is right. Ruby Central needs broader funding to avoid even more consolidation of power in the Ruby ecosystem. I for one am committing to do my part.

RE: Ruby Central funding, and a consolidation of power with companies like Shopify.

For years now the lead funder of Ruby and Rails initiatives has been Shopify, full stop. They've contributed heavily in both time and money, and through that have left a substantial impact on Ruby and Rails.

Despite a rocky start I would probably agree. AI, or specifically LLM-based stuff, is a feature, not a product. Apple at least has form on turning interesting tech into compelling products, by integrating them in the right ways into their devices and OS’
