In his *first* term it was openly known that he believed whatever he heard from the last person to talk to him and he was exhibiting obvious dementia symptoms every single day. Anyone think he's any sharper eight years on?

"Nuh-uh!" is also, interestingly enough, the response that every Holocaust denier has to millions of pages of evidence.

Thousands of voters BEGGED her to stop funding a genocide. Turns out Kamala Harris would rather fund the massacre of thousands of children than win an election, and she got both wishes.

Working on a playlist for soundalike pop and rock, like Fontella Bass' "Rescue Me" sounding a hell of a lot like Aretha Franklin, or "On the Dark Side" by John Cafferty & the Beaver Brown band. So far:

Rescue Me
TCB or TYA / Bobby Patterson
On the Dark Side

Hey, sweet! I'm an atheist, so you can plan to throw me into a death camp later in the name of unity and eventually maybe doing something good for a minority in the future, eventually, some time?

"Fight the Power" by Public Enemy for the gold; "Rain on the Scarecrow" by John Mellencamp for the silver. I contain multitudes.

It's October, and that means it's HubrisWeen time, everyone! @sadhbhgirl.bsky.social and I will be doing 26 brief reviews of October-appropriate movies now through Halloween, with episodes dropping at noon Eastern time.

So far: Altered States and Becky!

The Detroit News or Free Press (I can't remember which) did it a while back when a new CEO of the Detroit Medical Corporation was selected after a lengthy search:

COLLINS TAPPED TO RUN DMC.

Reminiscent of Mitt Romney hiding his taxes for as long as he could even though that made him look terrible. Whatever's in the Epstein files, it's bad enough that the obvious coverup of a child molester ring looks BETTER to Trump.

I think that only works if the soldiers of the empire have the capacity to feel shame. ICE doesn't. They deliberately lowered the hiring standards in order to ensure that ICE doesn't.

Do you think that it's good journalism to use a 30+ year old photo taken in another state as an illustration of what is supposedly happening in Portland?

Change isn't necessarily bad, but it can be disruptive and irritating.

Really want to encourage libraries - especially school libraries - to put no-AI content into your collection development policy. At the very least, if you have a clause in there about requiring accurate information, you can use that to weed out or prevent genAI purchases.

“When you get a suspicious book, “you look it up to see what else the [author] has written. And you see there's 30 things, and none of them have any reviews, and they were all written in the last two years,” DeMeester-Lane says.”
How Local Librarians Keep AI Slop Off the Shelves
AI is being used to create nonsensical, sometimes dangerously inaccurate books. Local librarians are tasked with keeping these volumes out of their collections.

I mean, there used to be enough movies released that the one-screen theater in Ypsilanti, MI changed films three times a week. You gonna tell me they were ALL brilliant? Or even good?

You know what was weird last week? I didn’t see anyone fired for quoting words actually spoken by Jane Goodall.

When he says "we" would have won in Vietnam, that's of course without Trump at any point 'cause he had really bad bone spurs.

Trump: "The problem with Vietnam, we, you know, we stopped fighting to win. We would've won easy. We would've won Afghanistan easy. We would've won every war easy. But we got politically correct. 'Oh, let's take it easy.' We're not politically correct anymore, just so you understand."

Fuck despair. Fascists should have to fight for every inch they get, on principle alone.

The fight is over when the fascists are defeated, and not one minute earlier.
