it's not sporadically enforced! there is no policy that prevents people with X markers from flying, and there have been no instances of someone being prevented from flying due to an X marker. this problem was *made up*, and now a bunch of nonbinary people are worried for *no reason*

lmao

could maybe use wlbouncer (disclosure: my thing) to disable zwp_primary_selection_device_manager_v1 at the compositor level? github.com/wmww/wlbouncer

I believe they're tracking changes and I believe the whole situation isn't good, but making people scared and confused of problems that aren't real doesn't help anyone. traveling with an X marker or chosen marker is fine. ~nobody is running into problems for that. that's all I'm trying to say.
October 28, 2025 at 11:02 AM
1. I think most people are willing to travel despite the chance they may be the first person ever to have a specific hypothetical annoying thing happen to them

2. the sources that article cites are just other random people lying/being misinformed on bluesky

?? I cannot find anything about anyone being denied travel based on an X marker, much less this happening frequently

I really think we should stick to facts so as to not unnecessarily scare people who have an X marker, or diminish the actual no fly list, which actually prevents people from flying

seems highly unlikely to me that allocations would be the bottleneck of a program managing calendar events

I do not believe the mangled corpse of an entity would be more pleasing unfortunately

no, I think the true solution is to remove it altogether.
October 21, 2025 at 8:54 AM
as much as I hate to be racist this is not a pleasing entity
October 21, 2025 at 8:52 AM
but idk what that industry would be, if there would be mutual funds or other ways to cheaply get a diversified stake in such an industry, and if that whole plan even makes sense.
October 15, 2025 at 12:26 AM
the thesis would then be: AI bubble pops, investment in AI gets pulled, models stop getting better, everyone realized this industry won't actually be disrupted any time soon, money rushes in.

but also the US economy growing in general is still on your side instead of against you
October 15, 2025 at 12:23 AM
so my advice would be... maybe find an industry that you think will be successful if (or ideally regardless of if) AI crashes. maybe something that's lost a lot of money to the threat of AI recently, but can't actually be usefully disrupted by current models?
October 15, 2025 at 12:20 AM
but when you want to bet *against* something being successful there's not an overarching historic trend of economic contraction to back you up. you need to be much more correct about what will happen and when than lots of entities with systemic advantages (hedge funds and such)
October 15, 2025 at 12:17 AM
the fundamental problem is that investing only reliably makes money (or even just counteracts inflation) *because* of technical progress in some form. each year there's more resources for everyone, mostly the mega-wealthy, but also a little bit more for you if you your money is sunk in the system.
October 15, 2025 at 12:12 AM
you could maybe somehow be short tech long volatility? but then if it holds steady for a while that wipes you out.
October 15, 2025 at 12:09 AM
you don't want to literally short tech because tech will not do what anybody predicts ever, and it just takes one poorly timed rally to wipe out all your money
