The other thing was that Realms of Ruin's developers weren't willing to commit. Frontier signed on at a time when their management wanted to expand out from just making park managers, and when times started to get leaner after the pandemic boom I think they walked back those ambitions.

It might not even have been that specific, might have just run through a list of theropods looking for something that felt natural as a common name

Another option is that a dev with dino knowledge maybe raised the name as an option and the team liked it, but that dev didn't have input on the model

I checked, Alioramus never appeared in D&D material before.

And it's a relatively obscure animal with minimal pop culture presence, so I'm really curious how they came to the name.
