Cars are honking on Michigan Avenue at the corner of Ida B Wells. Seems like a good turnout for a short-notice Wednesday.
A protester holds a sign that reads “Honk if you want Texas troops to leave Illinois” in the middle of Michigan Avenue.

At the Broadview ICE detention center outside Chicago this afternoon, things are (relatively) calm.

A vet-organized protest is planned for 4-6pm. After 6, curfew is in place.

Masked agents enter the building. ~1 month ago we would've been able to photograph them from Beach St, but not anymore.

I think if you work for ICE you are probably not going to see heaven, but there is still time for redemption if you start breaking computers and amassing evidence to prosecute your coworkers en masse. Betraying your coworkers is, in fact, the least evil thing you could do now.

New — White House says Donald Trump will visit Walter Reed Medical Center on Friday.
"On Friday morning, President Trump will visit Walter Reed Medical Center for a planned meeting and remarks with the troops. While there, President Trump will stop by for his routine yearly check up. He will then return to the White House. President Trump is considering going to the Middle East shortly thereafter." - White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt

They may be wrong in their belief that they can’t be removed from power. But it’s not going to happen just because they were loud and unsubtle about being Nazis. Or else they wouldn’t have won power this time round at all!

Lmao and that song had Cee Lo on it

I don’t remember much except it has a really long psychedelic track where he grudgingly accepts a gay friend or relative
thatguywasfly.bsky.social
People acting like this is some kind of strategic blunder… it’s the admission of someone who thinks he and his ilk now have power and that there is no level to remove them from power. These people no longer care who knows that there’re Nazis.

"Antifa has been around in various iterations for almost 100 years in some instances, going back to the Weimar Republic in Germany."

Seeing many posts about how ICE isn't trained. That's not really the problem. The problem is what they were sent to do, not whether they're qualified to do it.

it always blows my mind when these people act like “the left just calls everyone nazis” these days and it’s like no. we’re calling nazis nazis! there just happens to be a lot of them in and around the government these days!

More history from this Nazi adulated by the Trump team. These are explicit, proud Nazis who scream and cry and call every referee they can find when you quote their Nazism back to them.
Multiple tweets from Nazi Jack Posobiec in 2016 making "jokes" involving the Nazi code "1488."

Ellis also makes clear she doesn't want DHS to just distribute the order, she wants to make sure DHS implements the order and has its agents comply.

Ellis says she thinks "the compromise position here" is for agents to have alphanumeric IDs that don't necessarily display their names.

"What I don't want to hear is that the officers thought there was some risk and put tape over the numbers so they can't be identified," she says.

Ellis getting into her concerns over plainclothes agents.

She says she's willing to give some leeway to "undercover" officers, but says other agents, including those doing crowd control at protests, need to have ID that "identifies them numerically and by agency."

Largely because I had a tendency to buy the album released *after* the album that led me to discover the artist (which usually belonged to a friend)

You might think this is unconstitutional but due to a severe foresight error, it is actually super legal to make it illegal for public school teachers to say Israel is doing a genocide

donald trump is a fascistic leader who has surrounded himself with people who are explicitely pro-fascistic that want to end democracy as we know it and punish anyone who dissents. pretending otherwise leads me to believe you agree with them doing this

Some dispute over journalists "shouting" at protests.

Plaintiff attys bring up a journalist shouting "don't shoot," rather than shouting protest chants.

Govt. atty brings up the issue of presence.

"From our point of view, being at a protest can be construed" as protest activity, he says.

Oh geez. In my experience, crowds of protesters, neighbors, & regular people are great moving out of the way and making room for someone needing medical attention; rarely do they need to be forced esp by police. It’s often officers and agents who refuse to budge and make things more difficult.
djbyrnes1.bsky.social
To illustrate the complexity, Ellis raises the hypothetical of someone needing medical attention in a protest crowd, when the crowd itself refuses to budge to allow aid.

"There may be a use of force consistent with the Fourth Amendment to get the crowd to comply," Ellis says.

I ask because if it's the former I don't think their propaganda approach is sound. But if it's the latter, it's very sound.

I also sometimes go with option 3 which is: he cannot be bothered to watch anything other than AI videos that Stephen Miller and pals make for him, and this is what they show.
thatguywasfly.bsky.social
Do you think the DHS social media propaganda is even aimed at a general public? Or do we think that it is intended only to embolden and empower the base?
