And why? Because adults looked at my body, that defied them & their definition of gender- and THEY felt uncomfortable by it. They assumed I would be disgusted by it. That I couldnt feel #pride from it. And they were wrong. They drove scalpels into my flesh, but I am still me. (6)

That’s why intersex visibility is critical. I had my childhood stolen and replaced by hospital visits, & questions. Cast in shame, and isolation but I never knew why. Like I lived on the edge of black hole but never knew different. I never knew what I was, or what I could be. (5)

“I would’ve heard about this!” Except that society has been systematically erasing intersex identity for a long time. Physiologically we have always been here, but we didn’t have a name. Now we are erased into medicalization. Many intersex people dont know they are #intersex (4)

You may think you have never met one of us, because we must be exceedingly rare- but you would be wrong. 1.7% of the population has an intersex variance. So by now you are asking, “Wait, I would have heard about this! (3) #LGBTI #intersex #childrights

If we as a society threw up our hands in defeat every time a bad actor finds a way to break an ethical boundary, we’d have made no progress as a society. All children deserve body autonomy, and personal choice. We have to do better than just accept a broken system. #circumcision

Very true. But just as no one should body shame someone for being cut, no one should be forced into a medically unnecessary body mod to begin with! No matter how harmful it is or isn’t.

My preference is whatever that owner of that penis chooses for their own body. Not a big fan of forcing a medically unnecessary body mod on someone.
