4e is a fascinating game because it proves the fundamental incongruity of DnD as a game vs DnD as a culture/brand. Its fans literally declare that the game is worse when you make the game better.
D&D players/DMs on Reddit are complaining about the numerous janky compromises in the newest Monster Manual, complaining about 5e's "hidden abilities" on monsters with spellcasting abilities, and independently re-inventing 4e with suggestions like "just write out the important spells as abilities".
