Did you know that thousands of migrants are being forced to wait over ten years until they can permanently settle in the UK? And if this Government has their way, over a million more people will be trapped in this decade-long wait.

The system that we all rely on to prove our immigration status in the UK...is down right now.

There is no alternative, no physical back-up, so no way of showing your employer, your landlord, or anyone else that you have the right to live here.

This heartbreaking situation highlights the urgent need for the Home Office to recognise the disproportionate impact the eVisa system has on older and vulnerable people. Technology is failing many people like Liudmyla when they need it most.

"When my mother got to the airport, the staff just kept not listening when she showed them the email from the Home Office. They were just saying ‘it’s your problem’."

This is what happens when the border is being pushed out and people have no physical proof of their rights.

Liudmyla (78) was stranded for days at Krakow airport, not allowed to come back home to the UK. She'd spent 25 hours on a bus from Ukraine, and despite having the right to live here, she was denied boarding. www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home...

The new absence rules for pre-settled status holders have come in: people are eligible for settled status if they have been resident in the UK for 30 months out of the last 60 months. Use our absence calculator to figure out how many absences you've had:
the3million.org.uk/absence-calc...
How can I check I’ve been in the UK for 30 out of the last 60 months, to be eligible for settled status? Do you have pre-settled status?
You can use our absence calculator to see if you can qualify for settled status under the new rule.

If you don’t yet, the calculator will tell you the future date when you may be eligible.

Download the absence calculator: www.the3million.org.uk/absence-calculator How the calculator works

You enter the date you first arrived in the UK and all the dates you were absent from the UK in the last 5 years (and any planned future absences).

It shows you if the total absence is less than 30 months in the last 60 months.

If the total absence is more than 30 months (or if you’ve not been resident for at least 5 years), it will tell you the future date when you may be eligible.

We’re delighted, as this will mean so many in our communities will be able to continue to live in the UK without fear and threats to our rights.

👏 A huge well done to all of you who spoke up on this issue! We’ve been raising the alarm for years, together with so many other organisations.

Today the government announced changes to the immigration rules. EU citizens and family members with pre-settled status will qualify for settled status when they’ve been resident in the UK for at least 30 months (2.5 years) in total in the most recent 60 month period (5 years).

🚨 WE WON!! Absence rules for people with pre-settled status are changing: absences of up to 2.5 years in 5 years are allowed. 🧵

Today is a pivotal day for bi-national couples and families: for the first time people on the spouse/partner visa route were listened to by a Committee that wanted to learn what life is really like when you want to live in the UK and were moved by what we read in the report #FamiliesBelongTogether🧵

Júlia followed every rule, but the UK’s immigration system trapped her in bureaucratic limbo for 7 months. Now, she faces being forced to leave.

This is the reality of an immigration system that isn’t working. We can do better.
