Politics shouldn’t be a game of appeasing the far right. Yet yesterday’s Labour Conference speech by the Home Secretary was another example of policies designed to mirror their rhetoric. reunitefamiliesuk.co.uk/rfuk-respond...

Keir Starmer's call for unity rings hollow. Under his leadership, rampant racism has gone unchecked.

It's disingenuous to talk about growth & belonging whilst also announcing tougher immigration rules that create a two-tier system and will devastate our economy.

This govt can't claim it's committed to international law whilst also saying it wants to 'restrict' protections available to torture survivors & those at risk of torture if deported.
It's 1 or the other, either you oppose torture & respect international law, or you don't.

A fairer system doesn’t have to be cruel. Migrants already do so much for this country — it’s time for policies that recognise migrants are a precious part of our nation's history.

Otherwise, we risk repeating Windrush, repeating Conservative-era uncertainty, repeating avoidable harm

No law will tame the far-right. The only way forward is to challenge their discourse, not adopt it. We need politicians who take a principled stand — affirming the humanity of those who weren’t born here.

Even worse: the Home Secretary’s words suggest consultations on immigration will be a tick-box exercise, not a real process shaped by lived experience.

This puts unfair pressure on migrants and an underfunded charity sector, while holding newcomers to a higher standard than any British citizen.

Now they’re being asked to “prove” contributions to local communities through volunteering — ignoring the sacrifices migrants already make, from frontline work in the pandemic to supporting families under immense financial stress.

Criticising Reform for scrapping Indefinite Leave to Remain while proposing to expand and make standard for all migrants the 10-year settlement route is blatant hypocrisy. Migrants already face huge visa fees, strict English tests, and barriers to benefits. reunitefamiliesuk.co.uk/wp-content/u...

These proposals aren’t about fairness — they are exclusionary, racist, and dangerous for our community cohesion and our country’s future.

Ashley* speaks @theguardian.com about ordeal that is the 10-year route, the same route the Government is now proposing to expand to hundreds of thousands of people.
The reality is that the UK's immigration system is deeply damaging to people and their children.

Great to see so many MPs at the Debate on the Government's plans to extend the length of the route to settlement.

We urge the Government to consider these alternatives:

1️⃣ DO NOT increase the length of the route to settlement:
2️⃣ Scrap the exorbitant visa and health surcharge fees
3️⃣ Scrap the MIR
rfuk.bsky.social
Building a successful life in today's Britain is tough, especially for newcomers facing an unwelcoming climate. Every person deserves a good quality of life. We hope MPs will pressure the Government to abandon these harmful plans and instead support the thriving of everyone in our community.
rfuk.bsky.social
3️⃣ Scrap the MIR and reform the family migration rules: for once the Government should prioritise the wellbeing of its citizens and residents.
If they want to improve the nation's wellbeing they need to start making people and newcomers part of the success story of the UK not an enemy
rfuk.bsky.social
2️⃣ Fix the level of the visa application fees at the cost of processing for all adults applications and make them completely free for children: couples and families are committed to the UK, enforcing poverty will not help their their family life, their integration, or the wider economy.
rfuk.bsky.social
1️⃣ DO NOT increase the length of the route to settlement: 5 years is plenty of time for people to secure their status in the UK whilst they cannot access benefits and been in effect doubly taxed.
Settlement means commitment to the country and desire to thrive here.
Government should favour that
rfuk.bsky.social
The proposals will also directly negatively impact the children whose families will be pushed further into poverty as a result of these proposals.
If the government is serious about reducing child poverty, it cannot ignore the impact of its own immigration policies on tens of thousands of children
rfuk.bsky.social
The White Paper's proposals will increase insecurity and poverty, as the government prioritises favourable media coverage over community welfare.
We urge MPs and the public to oppose these plans and consider these alternatives:
