Like a one liner or something can continue on, but I've had to scrap entire chapters multiple times because I built on bad bricks and kept building over them so I can't imagine trying to "Yes, and-" some garbled nonsense that no one put actual thought into writing.

It's not worth me trying to write something crucial if when I come back for an edit, I could end up completely changing how the scene flows. I've just made more effort for myself by doing that, so any placeholder tends to be a hard stop and me moving to another spot in the narrative.

While writing, if I ever end up writing something I don't like, I tend to come back and delete the whole thing and reevaluate what I wanted to do with that paragraph.
This tends to make me reluctant to continue anything after that paragraph as I'm building too much on bad foundations.

I'm almost worried that means they know exactly who the mysterious "blue" is but knowing my luck, they'll accidentally predict the existence of a character I haven't foreshadowed at all when trying to guess.

There's been a few more examples, but my readers have a habit of tugging on the story threads I've laid out and finding ways to pick out details that are way more important than they think. Meanwhile, not a single discussion has been had about an intentional mystery character
