Still, makes me think of a supervillain I wrote, one who stood against the 'good guys' not because they were 'good' and she was 'evil', but because they protected a status quo not worth preserving.

Trans rather than gay, and 40 rather than 30, but...damn, I feel this so much. Spent my teens trying to be what others wanted me to be, my 20s lost, my 30s finding my feet, and my 40s finding myself.

Topical elsewhere in my life: the "Paradox of Tolerance" is super easy to understand in terms of a fistfight.
Just because someone isn't looking for a fight [tolerance] doesn't mean they have to stand there and let some asshole who is looking for a fight hit them [be tolerant of intolerance].
