Facts:
- Governor Gavin Newsom and Mayor Karen Bass both publicly stated they did not request National Guard assistance.
- Under normal circumstances, National Guard deployment requires state approval unless the Insurrection Act is invoked, which Trump has not done.

Worth noting LBJ used the National Guard to protect and expand civil rights; DJT is doing exactly the opposite.
“.. It's the first time since 1965 — when President Lyndon B. Johnson sent forces to Alabama to guard civil rights demonstrators — that a president has mobilized a state's National Guard without the governor's request ..”

Keep bringing fire to the bigots’ feet.
BREAKING: Democratic Rep. Sarah McBride just flipped the script and left MAGA Rep. Keith Self speechless after he intentionally misgendered her. This is amazing.

Resisting the fascists out loud, shaking his cane. 🔥🔥🔥
To quote the other Al Green, “Lovin' you whether, whether
Times are good or bad, happy or sad”
Get it, Mr. Rep 💙
US Rep Al Green removed by Trump's Nazi while others sat and watched or jeer at him. He stood up to Trump and told him he had no mandate to disrupt Medicaid for millions of people. Make a list of which politicians you are going to keep. So far it's a short list. #3E #SOTU

A really important email from my friend Senator @chrismurphyct.bsky.social . As he says "this is a 5 alarm fire."

America is under attack right now.

Tell your Senators & Reps to reject the discriminatory bill that makes it harder for millions of eligible Americans to vote.
Join me and @standupamerica.bsky.social in urging Congress to vote NO on the SAVE Act: act.standupamerica.com/letters/no-o...
Vote NO on the SAVE Act!
The SAVE Act is a trick to undermine our voting rights. Urge Congress to vote no on the SAVE ACT.

Jan 20, 1961. A blizzard the day before. Temperatures well below freezing. Without a coat or hat, JFK gave a speech we still quote today. Robert Frost, 86, recited a poem. Steinbeck and Hemingway and Rothko were among the VIPs. A million people gathered in the cold to hear it.
This is the precedent.

Not at all disgusting & embarrassing. 😒

I’m a lawyer, but you needn’t be, to know how this’ll be decided. Chief Justice Roberts has been targeting the ACA for years. Roberts sided with the rational justices re: Trump’s “sentencing” to placate American people, fully aware this ACA case was next on the docket.

So many will die b/c of this.
The Supreme Court said Friday it will review the constitutionality of a provision of the Affordable Care Act that requires health plans to provide no-cost preventive care, including cancer screenings, immunizations and contraception, to millions of Americans.

10000% this

(Is that a possible percentage? English major mathing…tell me, echo chamber 😏)
One thing I find interesting about the echo chamber complaint is that an echo chamber just won a presidential election.

Put aside the convo of whether it’s “good” or “bad” for a moment. The far right has devoted enormous resources + time to building echo chambers & loathes spaces they don’t control
The "bluesky is an echo chamber" think pieces that keep popping up really tickle me because they show how certain people genuinely believe social media should be for debating and arguing and not talking about the things that make you happy and sharing art with the world.

If House Republicans really wanted to protect women, they'd release the Ethics Committee report on Matt Gaetz' alleged sex trafficking - not try to ban their colleagues from using the bathroom. Stop the bigotry and release the report.

I wonder what a society that encouraged us to be our best selves would look like, especially if best wasn't defined by productivity or wealth.

Goodreads is owned by Jeff Bezos. A better alternative is StoryGraph, a Black woman-owned platform. And before y’all start, you can transfer all your Goodreads data to Storygraph so you literally have no excuse.
