FWIW here in Oz it’s common for companies to issue shares to raise cash. It’s theoretically fine to use equity markets to.. er.. raise equity. It’s a viable alternative to debt. It’s perhaps a red flag if it’s so unusual in the US.. as the rarity suggests other funding sources are generally optimal.
