Hi!

I love JRPGs with all of my being!

I talk about them here, as well as other Video Games and occasionally other bits of media, and probably repost lots of things I like!
You're completely right, but it still hurts.

Also there are a lot of other ones vying for these spots. This isn't clear cut- I adore JRPGs, and honestly this could shift depending on my mood at nearly any time.

Nice to see Soul Blazer mentioned. They have their hiccups (especially Illusion of Gaia) but they're very underrated.

To this day I'm baffled Terranigma isn't more well known.

This is one of those things that is technically true, but everyone forgets there's a 'but' attached.

Usually, it's 'but they were better for me and select others specifically'. I do feel like there's been a general decline in fast food though, yeah.

Chrono Trigger was my favorite game for a long time. These days, I'd dispute that...but it's still the first game I loved. The first game that enthralled me, hooked me. I've beaten it dozens of times, without counting New Game+ runs, and I don't regret an instant spent on it.

Mega Man Legends was competing with Mega Man 8 and Mega Man X4 very hard...but ultimately, I'm a sucker for a good hub area, and I feel a lot of that started with Kattleox Island, which is easily one of my favorites. It's the sole reason this is here instead of Legends 2.

Breath of Fire III is a game that's important to me for a lot of reasons...but watching a group of children grow up and seeing how they changed over the years hooked me, even as it ended in tragedy in one specific case.

Also it made me love Dragons before anything else could.

Also, the Fourth World in SaGa 1 probably is what hooked me into the series more than anything else. It isn't nearly the same as the rest of the series, but 'Suzaku turns all of a Japanese City into a nuclear hellscape' is the kind of weird, out of the norm fantasy setting I adore.

Lot of things I couldn't fit in here- can't believe Suikoden lost out, for example.

Makai Toushi SaGa was the first SaGa game I ever played, and while it isn't necessarily indicative of the whole series, it's out of the norm and experimental in a way that it sort of embodies what it later became.

I can only really stomach gacha for IPs I really, really like.

I enjoy Persona, but it is not that.

Had to look this one up, have never heard of it.

Probably gonna try and find this one...

Breath of Fire, Mega Man, any Capcom IP that isn't Resident Evil, MonHun, or Street Fighter, how I miss you...

...Also Parasite Eve but that one might be for the best after last time.

Reading this made me feel ill

Knowing it's just lost to time sucks tremendously

XIV player here, no I'm not here to defend it.

It's because the game really does improve after you hit Level 50...and that's a big fucking problem. Who has the time for that?

Also the gameplay style just doesn't stick for everyone, and a portion of the fanbase can't accept that.

You do you queen

Related, I hate that getting a SaGa 2 remake, something I had genuinely wished for years in advance, activated the monkey's paw.

Visions of Mana was done dirty.

...Still don't regret it, but it would have been nice to have both.
June 29, 2025 at 11:36 AM
I love Final Fantasy Adventure, and even more so I adore Trials of Mana and Legend of Mana. No judgment if people love this game, but compared to the other games in the series I have never understood the hype.

It just doesn't feel good to play.
June 29, 2025 at 11:34 AM
I had this exact same realization.

Oh well, maybe I'll finally pick up Visions of Mana. SaGa's cousin is good too.

This is so cursed
June 27, 2025 at 10:58 AM
That last one absolutely kills me. Not even just because I like RPGs- every story takes ideas from somewhere. It's literally what inspiration is.

Also, just in general- Why is having more stories with good themes a bad thing? Unless their argument is that something to any level derivative can't?
